Tara Palardy

Trainer/Mentor Trainer

(403) 872-5686   or   (403) 342-0085           tara@the-academy.ca

Tara started her career in early 2008 when she joined PetSmart as a Dog Trainer. In 2009, she completed her studies with Animal Behaviour College, and founded The Academy, quickly establishing herself as one of Red Deer's most sought after dog trainers. She also completed  First Aid Provider and Instructor level courses through Walks n Wags, North America’s longest standing Canine and Feline First Aid provider. Tara is also the Red Deer Externship Mentor Trainer for Animal Behaviour College (ABC), one of the most respected positive-reinforcement dog trainer colleges in North America, and is the local representative for Animal Cancer Therapy Subsidization Society (ACTSS). Tara is also the Leader for the Central Alberta Junior K9 Club, a youth group for ages 4 to 18 to get involved with dogs.

Tara is a passionate advocate for positive reinforcement training methods that enhance a dog's ability to learn while increasing confidence, resulting in a healthy, well-adjusted pet. She is a vocal opponent of punitive, dominance-based training techniques which often result in 'quick fixes' but ultimately cause more long-term harm than good while damaging the owner-dog relationship.

Tara lives in Red Deer with her Keeshonden, named Rommel and Montgomery.

Crystal Aberle-Crookshanks

Trainer - In Home

(403) 302-8719        paws-abilities@shaw.ca

After growing up on a beef and dairy farm, taking in stray kittens, living with dogs and horses, Crystal had always been exposed to life with animals. She attended Fairview College in 1997, and became an Animal Health Technician soon after. In 2004, she co-owned a dog training and grooming facility in Red Deer, and began her career teaching and training dogs. While she has not competed in the sports, she loves to teach rally-0, agility, and conformation.

Crystal believes that if you say you know everything, you really know nothing. Knowledge is power and she is always looking to learn more, unique skills and hone the methods she’s used throughout her career. Always a firm believer in positive reinforcement, Crystal finds that each dog is a unique case, and needs to be taught on a per dog basis.

Crystal resides in Blackfalds with her Miniature Pinschers, named Heidi and Harley.

Jo Hammond

Trainer - Conformation and Junior Handling

(403) 506-2741       hookdon@telus.net

Jo lived with dogs for most of her childhood. It was common to have a dog or too, but when she saw her aunts wall of ribbons  won while in the “show” arena, that sent home a drive that Jo has chased most of her life. In 1993, she purchased her first boxer, and has never looked back. Her kennel name even reflects this addiction - “Hookdon Boxers”.

Jo teaches conformation handling, including lessons for new and returning clients, dealing with nervous, fearful and first time dogs - and sometimes handlers! Jo also teaches junior handlers in the Central Alberta Junior K9 Club. Her enthusiasm for dogs, health, and conformation really shows in her personal work with her kennel stock and her professional work with her award winning clients.

Jo lives in Red Deer with her Boxers, named Bella, Maddie, and Nick Danger.

Jeannie Breakey-Miskey

Trainer - Show and Obedience Training

(403) 896-9709      droolschool@gmail.com

Jeannie has been competing with and training dogs for the past 12 years. She has a background in human services, obtaining her psychology diploma in 2002 and social work degree in 2004. Since then, Jeannie has been seeking a way to combine her love of helping people with her desire to help and train dogs. In july 2012 Jeannie completed the Karen Pryor Certification program, graduating with distinction.

Having a background in both human and dog behaviour allows Jeannie to communicate effectively with all family members; both humans and dogs are taught effective communication tools. She strives to teach using fun and interactive methods while focusing on the dog-human bond.

Jeannie lives near Bentley with her Boxers, named Jagger, Bling, Posh, and Vixen.
